How could spending time at Horses Helping People help YOU?

Therapeutic horsemanship can benefit a wide range of adults and children, including those with behavioural challenges, mental health issues, and learning difficulties.

Horses can often inspire otherwise hard-to-engage groups. Here are just some of the ways horses can help...

Physical Skills

BALANCE

Staying on a horse develops balance and body awareness.

COORDINATION

Riding and handling horses involves using both sides of the body, as well as different parts of the body simultaneously.

BEING 'IN THE MOMENT'

A horse behaves according to its own instincts, dealing with the 'here and now' - participants learn to react to and cope with present reality.
A Sense of Community

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

The reward of getting a horse to understand you is a motivation to develop better communication.

FELLOWSHIP

United by looking after the horses, participants begin to look after each other.

RESPONSIBILITY

Caring for the horse and putting its needs first encourages nurturing skills and self discipline.
Mental Wellbeing

STRESS

Just being around horses and stroking them can reduce stress levels and increase sense of well-being.

CONFIDENCE

If you can manoeuvre half a tonne of horse, you feel you can do anything!

RELATIONSHIPS

People will often engage in a non verbal relationship with a horse, leading to empathy and negotiation skills.
